What is your child’s favorite fairy tale? This week’s #teachECE topic is fairy tales and my daughter dove headfirst into her Little Red Riding Hood fairy tales short vowel activities.
J loves coloring-be it with crayons, markers or chalk! Yes, she colored her white desk recently with orange chalk because she wanted a new color. Naturally, I had to channel that coloring love towards something else or her room will be another color.
FAIRY TALES SHORT VOWEL ACTIVITIES
Before you can start all the fun you need a few things: (Please note that affiliate links are used below for your convenience):
- Cardstock
for printing
- Printer (we absolutely love our Epson Stylus NX530
)
- Crayons
or Markers
- Little Red Riding Hood Short Vowel sheets (at the end of this post)
These fairy tales short vowels coloring pages are pretty straight forward.
- Simply print and then explain what they need to do.
- Explain the key for example if you see a word that has the short a sound in it then you will color it red.
- Work with one color a time to avoid any confusion. My daughter came up with this actually. She decided to do all the short a words first and then moved on to e short vowels.
- Allow them to read each word as they are about to color the area.

My kids love colouring as well - I am very thankful we are now past the colour on the walls phase that wasn't fun at all! My daughter will love this and it will really help her with the vowels.
