Jello Pond Dive Sight Word Match

Have you ever wanted to make learning fun and to use hands-on ideas to teach your preschoolers the different concepts they need to master? That is what #PlayfulPreschool is all about. This week’s theme is PONDS and I chose to create a game using a few of the sight words resources we have on hand. The goal: J to have fun while learning.  I will share with you how we created our game as well as how easily adaptable it can be for other concepts as well. Let’s walk.

Jello Pond Sight Word Game

When we hear the word pond, we think of frogs and dragonflies as well as lily pads and lotuses and so I used these thoughts to create her first ever JELLO POND DIVE SIGHT WORD GAME! I wanted to make it as hands on and sensory as possible as my daughter is a serious sensory seeker.

If your preschooler is not learning sight words as yet, this activity can easily be adapted for learning the letters of the alphabet as well. Simply switch out the sight words with specific letters that you would like them to focus on or review.

2) Take your foam lily pad leaves and write one sight word to each leaf. If you do not have pre-made leaves, simply cut out a lily pad on a few foam sheets.  For this exercise, we chose 5 sight words to work on.

3) Give your preschooler the tongs and tell them to remove a lily pad and read what it says.

4) For every correct reading, they get to colour a leaf on their lily pad sight word dot chart. The aim is to make it across the pond as quickly as possible.
