Welcome to a brand new series brought to you by Learning2Walk and Raising Boys Homeschool. Joyice and I have teamed up because we desire to teach our children the Word. My eldest, J is at the age where she is very interested in Bible characters. She insists on having her Bible story every night (sometimes in German) just so she can hear more about the characters. Her favourite character to date is Isaac. She wants to know who he was, who his mommy and daddy were, and where they lived. She laughs when she hears that the characters are laughing and you can tell that she is truly understanding what is going on in the story. In a random conversation one Saturday afternoon, Joyice and I came up with a new series and we are sharing it with you today– Little Disciples and Young Disciples (LYD).
I will be writing the Little Disciples content for preschoolers ages 2-5. Joyice will be writing the Young Disciples content for early elementary ages 5-8. Our goal is to offer our children (and yours) a countdown to Christmas through a Biblical character study leading right up to the Savior himself.
Each week we will introduce a Bible character, highlight his/her personal character, and offer a lesson including:
- Bible Verse
- Character Trait Meaning
- Christmas Connection
- Character Challenge
- Doodle Interpretation
- Music/Song Suggestion
Kimberly from Brookdale House has been kind enough to partner with us offering her Handwriting Practice Books with our series. We will be using Book 1 and Book 2 for this series. You can download Book 1 now for FREE through August 15. Book 2 is available as a e-book for 40% off for Raising Boys and Learning2Walk Readers using the code jh-40. (Please DO NOT print your books just yet if you want to follow this series. I will tell each week what needs to be printed.)
I will also have a FREE weekly Christmas Countdown Calendar printable available next week. The calendar will have 20 cards you or your child(ren) can add week as you countdown and serve as a visual. I suggest using a pocket chart to store your cards.
Exposing and keeping J in the Word is something we value highly in our home. Each lesson will include a small teaching or a wisdom nugget for her to apply.
I want J to not only hear the Word but to love it. In Mark 12:30 it says:
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.
It is our hope and prayer that LYD will increase your child’s Bible knowledge, help them learn more about their “gifts” and teach wisdom with fun and anticipation for the Christmas season. Please join us next week as we reveal our 20th person on the countdown!
