Have you been wondering if it was too early to teach your preschooler about developing the right character traits? How about HOW to teach your preschooler? I had these questions and a few more earlier in the summer and I am very happy that I was recommended a character study by Kathie of The Character Corner. It is called Little Lads and Ladies of Virtue.

What Is Little Lads and Ladies of Virtue?
Little Lads and Ladies of Virtue is a character study developed by Kathie for children from ages 3 and up. It is designed to last for 6 months with 24 lessons. Each lesson had 5 days and progresses in difficulty while adding to the previous day’s work. To be honest, I can easily see us using this for much longer than the stated 6 months. In each week’s lesson there is a character definition, a memory verse as well as three I WILL statements. Kathie also adds games and other activities to help solidify the characteristic being studied.
How We Use Little Lads and Ladies of Virtue
For this study, we follow the exact layout but then we add a few twists. For example, for the character definition we sing a song so that it is easier for J to understand. We sing our songs to the tune of “Obedience is…”
I will note however that I am not aiming for J to be an expert on these traits but our aim is to continuously expose her to them. I also plan to wash and repeat this study throughout the next few years of her life. We are aiming for exposure not mastery.
What We Love About It So Far
- I love how easy it is for me to adapt it for J.
- The lessons are very short so we simply do it during calendar time.
- I can see myself repeating this curricula with J and eventually Baby C .

I started teaching my children virtues by beginning to read the Bible and to pick a virtue about what we read.

So far we haven't followed a curriculum. We just talk about Biblical values in our everyday conversations, but I would love to have something more formal to follow!
