Teddy Bear Beginning Sounds Activities Sorting Mats

Learning beginning sounds can be tricky for any kid. They have to train their ear to listen to the sounds and then match that sound to the appropriate phoneme- which is a very important step to learning to read. This week has been declared teddy bear preschool theme week and so I will be sharing with you our Teddy Bear Beginning Sounds Activities Sorting Mats.

The activity itself was pretty easy to prepare. All we had to do (once I created the mats of course) was to print, cut and play.

First, J chose the teddy bear mat that she wanted to play with- there are two versions a black and white and a colour. J chose the coloured teddy bear mat.

Second,  chose a letter to focus on- letter C. I asked her quickly what does C say and she repeated the 2 sounds for C. I then placed the letter card in rectangular spot on the mat.

The third step was for J to choose all the images that started with C and place them in the squares.

We played this game for as long as she cared for and then put it away once she was starting to lose interest.
